What a great surprise!

Well today is Wednesday and that means Emma has dance from 3:45 to 5:30.

Zachary came to the car when school let out and said "I don't want to go to that stupid dance place". His aide told him it was perfect time for homework. I never even mentioned it this am knowing that he would worry about going all day. He doesn't like to sit there although our time there last year wasn't as long as now.

So off we go to dance. We were a little bit early. So I was fixing Emma's hair and her teacher came out to get the class. Only the class wasn't there yet. Just Emma! So for whatever reason Zachary started rapping this song about "The Bling and the bling bling". And doing some dance moves. The teacher asked if I knew there was a boys hip hop going on while Emma is in class. Did I ever think of putting Zach in it. Well this is me you're talking to and no I never considered. I know how frustrated he is with just going to the studio never considered a class.

So the teacher goes on to explain that the class is small and the owner is trying to get more boys involved. She seems to think Zach is perfect. So I then explain that Im not sure if he'll have sensory issues with the loud music. I explain the situation with Zachary being on the spectrum. She didn't see a problem and asked if I knew so and so because he danced for a few years and had Autism. Nope don't know him but I guess we can take a look.

So Zachary and I head over to observe the class. I explain to the owner we're just looking. Talk to her about Zach and Zach of course starts in with his moves and flopping on the floor. I ask him what he is doing and he says "the dead tuna". Ok well whatever. She has him take his shoes and socks off and puts him right into the class.

He had a blast. Smiling and wiggling (dancing). Zach is extremely flexible so that he has going for himself. We ended up signing up. So that means he is going to have to get on stage and dance in front of 100 or so people. He says he'll do it.

I couldn't get it across enough how appreciative I was of the class being suggested. Zach doesn't have any activity outside of school that he does. I am always afraid to sign him up for things for so many reasons. And most of the reasons are probably me trying to protect him from the cruelties of life. He is my baby!

This is a small class and to top it off Zachary knew somebody from his school in Amesbury. That helped the situation big time!

Im so excited for him--hopefully he will continue to have fun with it.
