Last week with all that rain we had a little bit of an issue at the house. The yard work as far as grading and design was completed. Jeff had seeded and it and we were anxiously awaiting the first pieces of green to pop up.
Well that was until we had a down pour like never before. Sure we have had plenty of downpours in our lifetime but this was excessive with thunder and lightening. Well part of the plan with the yard was to put these wheel wells at the cellar windows. Our basement has 9foot (? I think thats the right height)ceilings. So the windows are even with the ground. Well with that downpour the wheel wells filled up. We have this culvit in the backyard as a drainage system. Jeff uncovered and it worked really well.
So we were at the house while this storm went through. So we quickly realized what was happening with the cellar windows. The water was seeping through and the puddles were forming in the basement. Jeff ran out and heaved out the water with a bucket while I mopped the two areas in the basement. All in all it could have been so much worse. Just frustrating because we didn't have any issue with water before the wheel wells were put in. So not sure if they are a good idea or not. So in the end we got everything cleaned up. And it rained again that night and the following day and we didn't have an issue.
But during all this Zach and Emma were in the house kind of freaked out by the weather and the stress Jeff and I were generating. I was in the basement and I could here someone come in upstairs and yelling hello. It was a man. Soon one of Jeff's co-workers at the fire dept came down. Poor guy popped in not knowing what he was walking into. He reassured me the storm was over and the sun was coming out. He left me in the basement to mop.
So apparently Emma heads him off upstairs and tells him that she has to pee and her mother is ignoring her. Now this guy doesn't have any kids. And I don't think Emma even knows him. But she knew this was daddy's friend because he was in uniform. Im not sure how he responded to her. But she proceeded to tell him that her bladder was going to explode. So it's still raining at this point. I give him credit on this one! He finds a big paint bucket someone is storing tools in and empties it out. He tells her to use that as her toilet. At which time she does-drops her drawers and does her thing.
I give him a big thanks for stepping up and helping her out. He's a nice guy and I definitely trust him. And as soon as we move in he actually will be our neighbor. But as far as Emma we need to work on that stranger, trusting, body kind of conversation. I understand she felt safe because of the uniform.
But when I was told of the whole situation it really surprised me on both his and her ends.
